Background
My background includes over ten years of energy work and seven years of massage therapy. I am a graduate of the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts and hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in therapeutic recreation.
My background in teaching includes over seven years of facilitating experiential and wellness groups in a hospital setting. I also performed and taught creative dance and mime to children for many years. I have taught the art of Jin Shin Jyutstu self-help through individual sessions, workshops and classes. My continuing education in massage includes James Waslaski’s orthopedic massage workshops. This training focused on being effective yet gentle, even with deep tissue work. Through this training I learned new ways of helping people with specific issues including muscle imbalance (which causes pain) and frozen shoulder.
My studies of energy work began in 1995. I did an internship to learn a touch therapy called Shen Physio-Emotional Release. I was working as a recreational therapist in a psychiatric facility and wanted to try a new way to assist people with emotional issues. I became fascinated with the therapy of touch and how it affects the body's electromagnetic field. I tried different methods of energy work and eventually chose to focus mainly on Jin Shin Jyutsu. I also received Reike training and attunement.
One of my earliest experiences with energy work was as a volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center. I tried out some of my new skills on the injured animals. It was amazing how receptive they were to this work. The progress they made was astonishing. For example, I was able to use it to help a severely injured wild rabbit that was hit by a car and to instantly calm an injured woodpecker.
In addition to my formal training, I have learned about healing through my own personal experience. Touch therapies helped me regain mobility after the resurfacing of an old injury resulting from a brown recluse spider bite. Through the process of my own healing, I was able to experience for myself how effective different types of body/energy work can be. It helped to give me a deeper understanding and respect for the unique journey of each individual.
